April 2026 Newsline
Greetings Comrades,
I hope everyone had a happy Easter and are now looking forward to the upcoming summer months.
On a sad note, Marine Gunnery Sergeant Richard “Dick” Akin reported to the Supreme Commander on March 26th. Dick was a pillar and stalwart member of the MCL Detachment 67. He was always available and ready for a Honor Guard duty assignment, assisting wherever needed, and just lending a friendly hand to all. He will be sorely missed by all us. He is expected to be interned at the VA cemetery in Dixon, dates and times have not yet been determined.
The consolidation of our post with VFW 10165 is rolling along, we are going to keep our all of our current post elected officers as they are since we will be voting all new members in July when the consolidation is completed. If you would like to be considered for a position in the post, please let me know. I am looking forward to the merger since it will benefit both of our posts and our efforts to support each other and veterans.
Mountainside Middle College High school is looking for Vietnam era veterans to share their stories about their time during the war. It is in support of their history class; they are going to develop question to ask people. Some of the questions will be in the following area: life before and after service, life during deployment, perspectives on the war at the time, experiences returning home and other personal reflections. If you are interested, please reach out to Shea Garcia at 831-809-4480.
The VFW State Convention is going to be held in Sacramento this year, the first time about seven years it has made to the northern part of the state. The dates are Tuesday June 17thto Sunday June 21 at the Holiday Inn at 300 J Street in Sacramento. You can go to www.vfwca.org to see the schedule of events, registration starts on June 18th. It is important to register because of the voting needed to get our people elected into the various state positions.
We have started our parking “fundraising” in conjunction with the EDC fairground speedway. This is pretty easy gig, we usual open up the parking lot around 3:00 and finish up around 5:30, we charge $10.00 the same as the fairgrounds but the money we raise goes to support veterans, also if you are veteran you can park for free!
Bingo is getting bigger and bigger each month, so we can always have people come out and help with this event, again it is an easy gig, plus it is fun as well. Tell your friends that the doors open at 5:00, games start at 6:00, it costs $10 for a full pack, and $5.00 for a half pack and special pack.
Our meeting is going to be this Friday the 12th, please come out and join us. Remember you can also see what is happening on our website,
All my best,
Seth Culver
Commander.

Greetings friends, in the name of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! At the beginning of the School year at Providence Christian School Pete, Mike, Primo and I taught the incoming fifth grade class how to fold the American flag. We also gave each student American flag lapel pins and they promptly put them on. They put the American flag and the Christian flag up and take it down each day. We really enjoy the kids and it’s one of our favorite things to do. At the end of the school year, we show the incoming class the proper way to raise and lower the flags. We demonstrate folding the flag, so the kids could see it. We also have one of the students play taps with our bugle. They really like it and so do we! Friday, November 7th we participated in the veterans program at Providence Christian School. We have been participating in this program for many years now. Primo,Pete and Seth opened the flag held it towards the audience and Max played taps. As the guys folded the flag I read what each of the 13th folds mean. Special recognition was given to us and we received a thank you card with a check of $100 for our post! It was an honor to represent all veterans and members of post 2680! By the way Mike, they had delicious cookies this year. It’s too bad the marine that complained about it wasn’t there! Thank you to everyone who prayed for healing for Liz. She had a successful Robotic surgery after six hours for bowel obstruction. She spent nine days in the hospital at home now healing and happy to be home. Thank you again for all your prayers and well wishes! Please inform me if someone has a need or a prayer request. Let me know so I can respond appropriately. Until next time with Jesus, love and ours for you, Doug and Liz.
Meeting starts at 5:30 p.m. Veterans Memorial Bldg., 130 Placerville, Ca 95667
