Applicants must have served in the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, or Space Force and received an honorable discharge or be currently serving honorably. This requirement reflects the VFW's commitment to recognizing service performed with integrity, dedication, and respect.

Eligible members must have served in a qualifying overseas conflict, campaign, expedition, or operation, or received a qualifying campaign medal, hostile fire pay, imminent danger pay, or other recognized service designation. This requirement ensures the VFW remains an organization uniquely dedicated to veterans who have served beyond America's borders.
